2-2-1 Short Answer: Ethical Concerns
Proposal 1: Racial Predisposi on - The aim of this study is to examine the direct link between race and violent criminal ac vity. In this study, I plan to prove the direct and posi ve correla on between race and incidence of commi ng violent crimes. This will then prove that race is the strongest indicator of tendency toward violent crimes.
My concern with this proposal is that it is a very broad subject selec on. The proposal does not state speci cally how they would like to gather sta s cal data on this subject ma er. If they select only two races and compare the sta s cs between them, that wouldn't be fair. My sugges on would be to pick a region or area of interest and target the study speci cally to the race popula on that occupies it. They also don't state if the subjects would be of the same social class, religion or from the same regions. My last concern is when the results have been formulated, will they be kept private? Or will the be publicly presented to the popula on for their interpreta on?
Proposal 2: Electroshock Therapy -- In this study, I will examine the e ect of electroshock therapy on undesirable behavior in human subjects. This study will administer electrical shocks to human subjects as a disciplinary measure when undesirable behavior is observed. The goal of the study is to determine whether the electroshock therapy is a suitable treatment for resolving disciplinary issues in preteens and adolescents. If this therapy is found to be e ec ve, it will be prescribed to resolve disciplinary issues in preteens and adolescents.
I have several concerns with this proposal,rst is legal issues that will have to be addressed. Is it Ilegal in this state? If it is there is no men on of consent forms or risks assessments associated with this par cular shock treatment for parent or legal guardians for the test subjects. Secondly there was no men on of medical personnel support or oversite during the test procedures. Lastly, I'm not convinced this proposal would even be legal/ethical for anyone who is not in the medical eld to conduct.
In this proposal the rst ques on I would ask is what is the side e ects of this procedure? Is this procedure legal in the United States? If it is legal, are there any forms that the pa ent must sign? How does the facility protect themselves from law suits in case of a wrongful death? Who administers this type of tes ng or procedure? In my opinion this procedure does not seem to be legal or humane to be provided for any human to partake in.
