PART I Instructions: Respond to the questions below. 1. Review the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) website. What type of criminal data can you gather from this website? This program provides crime and law enforcement statistics from over 18,000 cities, colleges and universities, counties, state, tribal and federal agencies. This includes data about single crime incidents, hate crime statistics, information on law enforcement officers who were assaulted or killed feloniously or accidentally while on duty, collected data of law enforcement officer's use of force, as well as data of current and former law enforcement officers, correction employees, 911 operators, judges, and prosecutors, in relation to suicide prevention. 2. Using the Criminal Data Guide document as a guide, what do you notice about the information that you should ask about? Where should you look for this information? The first thing I noticed is that there is quite a bit of information that needs to be gathered and considered to complete a profile. I also notice that there are considerations for biological, environmental, and psychological factors that will help answer key questions involving the crimes committed. I notice that some key questions asked are who the person is committing the crime, why did they do it, and what is the motivation and methodology behind the crime committed. According to the Criminal Data Guide, there is no typical profile for terrorists. However, for an unknown individual, consideration if the crime is a terroristic act. Terrorists aim to create fear and psychological impacts and lasting effects and are not limited to any specific demographic, psychological profile, or economic status. In groups, terrorists are psychologically healthy and more stable than other violent criminals. In fact, organized terrorist groups will expel individuals from their organization because they were viewed as a security threat. Terrorists are not necessarily spontaneous, but well-organized and prepare for their attacks and are often motivated by political or religious goals.
