1. Review the Uniform Crime Reporng (UCR) website. What type of criminal data can you gather from this website?
The FBI uses biometrics to identify individuals. Fingerprints are the most common
biometric modality; however, other types of biometrics include DNA, irises, voice patterns,
palmprints, and facial patterns. Identity history summary checks are provided when people pay a
fee. The information that you receive, through fingerprint submissions, are normally related to
arrests, federal employment, naturalization, or military service. Next, there is the Law
Enforcement Enterprise Portal, which provides a web-based investigative tools and analytical
resources, that are available to law enforcement. These resources include the virtual command
center, Justice connect, active shooter, interlink, regional information sharing systems network
internet crime complaints center, Malware investigator, and Repository for individuals of special
concern.
The National Data Exchange (NODEx) System provides criminal justice agencies with online
tools such as sharing, searching, linking, and analyzing information at the local and state level.
and provides federal records. Next, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System
(NICS), which provide background checks to those who are looking to buy firearms or
explosives. Lastly, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which helps criminal justice
professionals be able to find fugitives, locate missing people, recover stolen property, identify
Southern New Hampshire University terrorists, and perform other duties more safely
2. Using the Criminal Data Guide document as a guide, what do you no ce about the informa on that you should ask about? Where should you look for this informa on?
Something that I notice about the information is that it's all very detailed. I would ask
more questions about the UCR program data. According to the Uniform Crime Reporting
Program, their data on hate crimes, law enforcement officers being killed or assaulted, and crime
data explorer, gives the FBI and agencies knowledgeable information such as safety measures
that need to be implemented. I would be interested in understanding which states and
universities, and counties are used in this data. I believe that by looking at the latest UCR
releases that are available on the FBI's Crime Data Explorer or other resources available on the
website could provide more detailed information on where their data specially comes from.
