Criminal Psychology and Behavior

Andrea Hickman May 22, 2022 Dr. Tim 3-2 Final Project Milestone One For the final project, I chose the case of Frank Timmons. Frank Timmons is an accused man of being a serial murderer and rapist of over 8 different women. Frank has been described as growing up in a difficult household where there was a lot of abuse on different levels, and a lack of stability in his home life from no parental presence. After Frank's mother passed away when he was younger, his father began drinking heavily and would often take his drunken aggression out on the 13 children he had with his late wife. The role of parent then was assumed by oldest sister Margaret, who was very similar to their father, reportedly became an alcoholic and began abusing the children over the years. It is rumored that she also would sexually abuse the children during the Frank was living in the family home Frank Timmons mother was a very absent parent in her children's lives, and before there was an opportunity for her to patch things up with the kids, she passed away. Frank had no sense of true parental guidance, and the lack of a stable parental role or nurturing love from a parent in his life, he was left to his own devices of understanding. As Frank started his high school career. he tried out for and joined his high school football team. During this time, he could be observed being excessively rough towards the opposing teams during games. This even became part of his reputation during his high school career-which was short lived. Timmons never graduated due to his need to provide for the household, so he dropped out because he had far less credits than he needed to have for his diploma. Frank Timmons is also alleged to have committed other crimes such as; trespassing. driving under the influence, abduction, and sexual assaults during the years after he was released from jail after being charged with the rape, assault, and abduction of a young woman when he was 15 years old. From what I could gather from reading over his background, his crimes all had no apparent motive. I can associate his aggressive behaviors during his football games to be physically abused by his father and sister growing up, but the want/need to be sexually aggressive could possibly be from his sexual abuse by his older sister. Throughout his adolescent years, he did not receive any type of comfort, support, or genuine love which more than likely led to some emotional detachment from any and everything that tried to get close to him like a significant other or his younger siblings. His mother's lack of love and presence, plus Margaret's abusive ways might have also led him to viewing women in a negative light compared to a man, and this could have impacted his urges to sexually assault women who he had come into contact with in his adult years.
