3-2 Final Project Milestone Two: Social Media Platforms and Evaluating Digital Market Netflix is all over social media, and not just talked about on social media. Netflix holds accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Netflix has 7 million followers on Instagram, over 4 million on Twitter, and around 44,276,937 on Facebook. According to Facebook Netflix has a range of over 75 million subscribers who are all members of Netflix. Netflix uses social media to spread what they have available to offer. Facebook and Twitter are the perfect platforms to get people talking about new content on a site like Netflix. Talk excites others and gets them to start watching, subscribing, or even just interested in the idea of Netlfix through word of mouth. Although these platforms all differ, they all align with how Netflix reaches their target market, by advertising their content with clever pictures and videos of the wide variety of movies and television shows they provide. Netflix Facebook page has either a picture or video in every post they have made to spread trailers and film posters. Netflix advertises regular content, but as well as their Netflix Originals. On Twitter, Netflix still posts images and videos, but they also repost viewers responses of shows they have watched on Netflix, silly memes that have to do with Netflix or shows, or other things like show suggestions that all promote what Netflix has to offer. Instagram's platform is similar to both Facebook and Instagram, only it heavily focuses on images and videos and strays from sharing and reposting. Instagram also offers a feature where you can post a story that only last for twenty four hours, and Netflix often utilizes this feature to Netflix is using multiple platforms, they change the post to fit the platform. Instead of just posing images and videos and new release dates like on Facebook, they take advantage of Twitter's platform and change it up by offering real feedback from real people. Similarly, the brand takes advantage of the "My Story" feature on Instagram to make sure their posts are being seen by their followers and not just being scrolled past on normal feed. Overall, Twitter's platform is the best for Netflix to use because it is where they interact the most with their subscribers. Although Netflix has reached more people on Facebook, Twitter is a strong platform where they advertise new content, and share the thoughts of their target market to further market others. Netflix show they care about their viewers opinions by reposting their excitement and love of different shows, series, and movies. Netflix does this well, and by doing this they are showing the target audience that their feedback is important, but it also makes their content easier to find when searching the internet. "If, for example, a tweet about a new indie film is shared 20 times and a blogger then picks up on it and writes about it, the content will become searchable." (Damian, 2015).
