Have you ever had a moment in your life where you needed to study something closely to make sense of it? Have you ever had to break something down into smaller chunks so that you could figure things out?
For example, say you're trying to budget your grocery money.
You pull out the receipt from the store, and there's a list of numbers and items a mile long. At first it's a little overwhelming,
groceries. So, the first thing you do is start looking through the list for expensive items and circling them--for example,

anything that's over $6.
Once you have all of these items circled, you then try to figure out what each item is. Once you figure out what the items are, you begin to ask yourself, was this a necessary purchase? Could I have picked a cheaper brand? Could I have substituted the item for something completely different (but equally as nutritious)? After you do this, you begin to look for items that may have been unnecessary from the beginning (did I really need that second bag of potato chips?)
When you've completed breaking down the grocery list, you have a new list of Do's and Don'ts for your next grocery trip, and in doing so, you've budgeted your money.
By paying close attention to both the big and small moments in everyday life, you are refining your critical thinking and problem
closely when writing for academic purposes. This close attention to detail will ensure that your written work is focused on the writing prompt and free of spelling and grammatical errors that can impede the reader's understanding.

Introduction to Analysis
In 1-3: Discussion: Moment of Critical Thinking in Real Life you engaged in a small group discussion with your peers about a moment in your life when you had to look at something a little closer to make sense of it. In addition to describing that moment, you also engaged in the process of analysis.
Analysis is a process that you constantly use in your everyday life. When you are getting ready to take out a loan in order to buy a car, you analyze the loan documents in order to see how it will affect your budget. When y
