Capstone
Module 1-3
For my final project, I am choosing Montefiore Healthcare. Montefiore provides services
to ow income families and patients in the Bronx and has a very extensive program to help people
get quality healthcare at low costs to them. This organization has expanded their services into
areas where there is a lot of poverty and many sick people. This area is not very wealthy, making
the percentage of people who are seen for medical issues until it is an emergent situation very
low. This area is very underserved because the people in this area do not have the money for
education, and also live very unhealthy lifestyles because of their situations.
The issues I will be focusing on is the impacts that social status has on your health. I have
selected this issues because it is near and dear to me. I have family that lives in poor parts of the
country and they have passed on due to lack of quality healthcare because of their financial
situations. If they had access to a quality medical center that gave them resources to succeed, I
feel their outcome would have been much different in the end.
Poverty is a real issues when it comes to getting quality healthcare and also when it
comes to taking care of yourself and your family as well. This medical center goes above and
beyond to make sure their patients have the resources that they need in many different areas.
They hold free fitness classes everyday, they provide healthy eating on a budget classes and also
have a great financial assistance program to those who qualify. This medical venter is an
example of how other facilities should be acting towards other underserved areas. I believe I will
be able to come up with a strategic plan for this organization and this healthcare issue
