Resource Allocation
Description
For any program to be successful there needs to be a well thought out plan that describes
the resources needed to make the program successful. "Resource allocation is the distribution of
resources -- usually financial - among competing groups of people or programs" ("What is
Resource Allocation?", n.d.). The resources needed to implement this program include rooms for
the patients to be seen by physicians, dieticians, counselors, and other clinical staff. The rooms
that are already used for other patients in the organization can be used instead of building new
rooms. Other resources would include a small gym or workout room for the patients to be able to
do workouts with trainers and work stations where educational classes can be held. For this
program to be successful the rooms are needed for the patients because it is important that each
patient has their own privacy when speaking to the clinical staff. A small gym or workout room
is an important resource as well because they will help the patients and staff start creating their
healthy living journey. The technology that is needed for this program is an EHR software.
Electronic Health Record (EHR) system keep track of the patients protected health information
and other important data that is used by the clinical staff. The patients are able to see bills, test
results, medications, etc. "One of the key features of an EHR is that health information can be
created and managed by authorized providers in a digital format capable of being shared with
other providers across more than one health care organization. EHRs are built to share
information with other health care providers and organizations -- such as laboratories, specialists,
medical imaging facilities, pharmacies, emergency facilities, and school and workplace clinics
so they contain information from all clinicians involved in a patient's care" (HealthIT, 2019)
This resource is essential for this program to be successful because it will hold all the
information on the patient and can be viewed by any authorized staff member. The financial
resources would include the relationships the organizations have with their insurance companies.
This program will hopefully be covered by the patients insurance company or at least some of it
will be covered. The new program would have a minimal impact on the organizations current
budget. The program would use all the same staff that is already hired by the organization. The
organization could also hire volunteers that could help. Donors that are involved at the
organizations could help with the program resources as well. Fundraising is always a way to help
get the resources and money to get the program up and running.
Plan
It takes time for a program to be sustainable and making sure the resources are being used
appropriately and accurately. It is important to develop strategies that forecast the growth of the
organization that is adopting this program. Understanding the organization and how well the staf
