Healthcare Administration Capstone Project

Final Project Healthcare Admin Capstone Capstone Component Final Submission Professional Reflection September 26, 2021 Carrie Ferrell Southern New Hampshire University Final Project Capstone Component Professional Reflection I didn't stop in between my bachelor's and master's so at first, I worried that I was going to burn out. I got my bachelor's degree from a different school and was going full time in addition to working full time and raising two kids. It was hard but worth it. As soon as I finished. I knew I wanted my master's but at a different school. One that was more supportive. My work had an agreement for discounted rates at SNHU, so I studied up on the school and quickly realized it was exactly what I was looking for. I immediately applied and was thrilled to be accepted into the Health Care Administrator master's degree program. I began at half time status because I had recently promoted into a more demanding position at work. This program has a remarkable experience and journey for me. Part time was the right way to go and I was immediately impressed by both the format and the professors I had. They I was pleasantly surprised by how much I already knew from experience in the health care world This helped to further my belief that I was in the right program. Of course, I also had challenges as well. This program has helped to shape my skills and overall foundation as a healthcare administrator. It has bolstered my confidence to handle myself as an administrator and to be able to handle any challenges and issues I may face in my career. The self-learning and online program have allowed me to develop discipline, organization, and time management skills that are critical skills to possess in this field. This capstone course has allowed me to put these skills to the test while shedding light on the overall impact and vision of this course and overall program. The capstone has helped me to understand the skill sets that I now possess and to put Final Project them to use in a real and practical way. My experience completing this capstone was challenging, fulfilling, and bittersweet all at the same time The start of this final capstone project was rough as I was having trouble deciding what I wanted to do. I was looking at something in my current organization and was having trouble focusing on a topic. Too late, I realized I could have focused on claims billing and fraud although that would have been hard to narrow down. Instead I focused on something closer to home and my heart. This helped me choose increasing rural mental health care access. I choose a local facility that has an almost nonexistent mental health provider services location. The capstone helped me to realize that this is a nationwide problem that needs real world outside the box thinking to help overcome. The program helped me understand the importance of the healthcare administrator position
