SECURITY MEASURES 2 Title Security measures are crucial in healthcare. If I were to start a healthcare business, I would implement three key security measures: access controls, audit controls, and network security. Security Measure Choices Network security involves having firewalls in place. A firewall is a computer system or a combination of systems that provide a security barrier or support an access control policy between two networks or between a network and other traffic outside of the network. (p. 166) This will protect patient information that is shared between physicians. The second security measure I would use is audit controls. Audit controls help support existing security programs. They leave audit trails to track activities and usage. They also alert administrators of suspicious security issues. The third security measure I would adopt is access controls. Access controls prevent unauthorized users from accessing certain information. One of the functions of access controls is role-based authentication, which allows access based on different roles in administration. Some roles will have higher access to restricted data than others, depending on their position in the organization. Security Measure Rationale My rationale behind choosing these three security measures is their importance to the security field. Protecting patient data is not only important, but also required by law. Network security, audit controls, and access controls play a major role in maintaining order.
