HIM-220-T3525 Healthcare Data Management 24E Discussion 1-1Administrative Information System Hello all, My name is Kimberly McRoberts, the program I am currently enrolled in is BS in Health Information Management, and my planned completion date is November of year 2025. As an employee with one of Texas' largest Health care Providers, and with the constant evolution and advances in technology my expectation for this course is to enhance my skills in healthcare information technology, I desire to improve patient outcomes through efficient and effective learning. Through learned information and course material I expect to develop a deeper understanding of the practice of data management and how it can benefit healthcare and ultimately impact patient outcomes. I desire to stay on top of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and Health Information Management. I am currently employed full-time as a Patient Contact Specialist and Scheduler. My career goal is to become a Manager of Operations with my current employer. Both of my parents are deceased and my commitment to my family is advanced in that I have very few commitment obligations, I am a grandmother of six and a great- grandmother of one. I have raised my children and now enjoy time spent spoiling my grandchildren. My interests are interior design, art, reading, and volunteering at senior care facilities. By using Administrative Information Systems, the CIO and VP determined the necessity for expanding the Cardiovascular Department. Based on data from the financial information system,
patient registration system, and the master patient index a return on investment (ROI) was calculated to determine the number of patients needing cardiovascular services. The similarities and differences between administrative clinical and financial information systems are similar in that they all pertain to how healthcare organizations provide patient care. These systems differ because the clinical system focuses on patient care management such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), and diagnostic and treatment information. Whereas the financial and administrative systems deal with the organization's business needs like billing and budgeting. A proposed scenario in which the use of an administrative information system would help a healthcare facility make a big decision is determining which system integration would benefit an organization. One instance is Electronic Healthcare Records (EHR), the decision to implement or update electronic health records is a major decision that could negatively affect an organization. An organization will have to factor in training for employees, budgeting costs for continual software updates, and licensing must be considered.
