3-3 Final Project Milestone 1: Organizational Overview and Applications You will receive a brief summary of Alpha Healthcare, its service lines, relevant organizational stakeholders, and their upgrading plan at this milestone. The goal is to determine and suggest an integrated electronic health record (EHR) based on internal and external needs, a draft functional scope, an examination of security features, an analysis of required procedures, and backup plans. Organization The 150-bed Alpha Healthcare is seeking to replace its antiquated paper records and computerized scheduling system with a more comprehensive, user-friendly Electronic Health Record (EHR) that can support all its service lines. Important stakeholders from every department and team will be involved in the selection and implementation process. With five beds for intensive care, the emergency room is classified as a category III trauma center. Five disciplines, including women's health, orthopedics, cardiology, and outpatient surgery, have dedicated care areas at Alpha. Comprising thirteen multispecialty clinics, it offers supplementary services. Additionally, Alpha offers community wellness program services and outpatient rehabilitation. Applications: Health Informatics An EHR should have a wide range of health informatic applications since they are essential resources for supporting staff, patients, and clinicians. Patient demographics and registration, administrative and financial data, clinical documentation, including but not limited to patient vitals, computerized physician order entry (CPOE), patient histories, medications, allergies, and immunizations are some of the tools that are focused on staff and patient support.
3-3 Final Project Milestone 1: Organizational Overview and Applications In addition to the patient's medical record, it would be advantageous to have electronic medication administration (EMAR), clinical decision support (CDS), point-of-care charting (POC), provider-patient portals, health information exchange (HIE), clinical decision support (POC), and results management, to mention a few. These resources not only give healthcare providers the knowledge they need, but they also create the conditions for staff members to assist physicians and patients more effectively. Applications: Requirements A number of prerequisites apply to an EHR application. Items such as connectivity, security, communication, and integration. To meet HIPAA regulations and enable Alpha to share information across all of its service lines, the company must upgrade from their current antiquated paper documentation and stand-alone electronic scheduling system. The most crucial requirement is the selection of a Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT). In order to prevent staff and users from becoming hostile, Alpha Healthcare has also recognized the necessity for the system to be user-friendly. Applications: Scope Range The EHR's functional scope must sustain several completely integrated service areas, as per Alpha's presumed requirements. Data gathering, care delivery, and provider workflow can all be improved with EHR integration. The EHR's functionality must also be able to work successfully with varying user access and capability levels based on their specific roles.
