EHR Reflection EJIOGU 1 8-2 Journal: EHR Reflection Chukwuma Kenneth Ejiogu Southern New Hampshire University HIM 220 Health Care Data management Instructor: Rachel Galeski 12/17/2023 EJIOGU 2 EHR Reflection EHR Reflection: Introduction In the context of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), which comprises Project planning, System Analysis, System Design, System Implementation, Evaluation of Implementation, and Maintenance of Information System (Sayles et al., 2021. P.62), for EHR system recommendation, it is crucial to consider various phases and their implications for the recommended system. It is thus essential to ensure that the implementation aligns with the HCO- Alpha goals throughout the processes, and continuously evaluate the system to ensure it meets the evolving needs of the healthcare organization. Evaluation Phase This phase comes after the EHR system is implemented and functioning properly. Here, the project team assesses how well the implementation went which includes Functionals assessment - learning what did or did not work in the EPIC HER system. For instance, verifying if the new system effectively supports patient engagement, health record digitization, interoperability, and comprehensive information management across departments; Usability Evaluation - seeking to measure how much user friendly and ease of use of the system by healthcare professionals and stakeholders of HCO- Alpha. This involves testing the system's interface, navigation, and accessibility; Performance testing - if goals were met or if the project came in on budget, determining after a period if the Organization has realized all expected benefits/goals established during planning and analysis phase. This ensures the system operates efficiently and securely under various conditions, including peak loads and stress scenarios. It is worthy to note that any testing of possible software changes is performed in the test environment and not on the production environment to mitigate any possible problem that may arise before the update is live; and Compliance check to verify that the system complies with healthcare EJIOGU 3 EHR Reflection regulations such as MU, HIPAA, HITECH, and industry standards for data privacy, security, and interoperability (Sayles et al., 2021. Pp.108-109) Implementation Phase According to Sayles et al., 2021 pages 93-109, the implementation phase involves several critical processes for deploying the EPIC EHR System: Planning and preparation which involves the site preparation and user preparation. This requires making changes to the physical location where the hardware is installed and providing enough information to users about the new system, so they are prepared psychologically and through training to use it; Installation and configuration - comprising installing hardware and software, programming and customization, user configuration and settings, user interface design, Reengineering process (i.e. evaluating the way HCO-Alpha does business in order to improve efficiency); and Conversion or data migration (i.e., transferring data from old Information system e.g. paper-based to the new EHR system while making necessary changes in format or content; Testing and validation will include thoroughly testing the system functionality, interoperability, and performance to address any issues before full deployment.
