TITLE OF DOCUMENT 2 EHR RECOMMENDATIONS 7-2 Final Project Submission: EHR Recommendations Healthcare organization Alpha is converting from a paper documenting system to an electronic health record (EHR) system. I will be making recommendations to healthcare organization Alpha by reviewing key details about the organization. I will be making recommendations about the design, implementation, testing, training, and educating employees. Analysis: Organizational Overview: Organization Alpha wants to convert from its current outdated paper documentation and electronic scheduling system to an EHR system that will accommodate the facility's service lines. Alpha is a level III trauma center, a 150-bed hospital, and five designated ICU beds. They have designated care areas for outpatient and orthopedic surgery, cardiology, pediatrics, and women's health. They also have several auxiliary service lines as well. Additionally, they provide outpatient rehab services and a community wellness program. Analysis: Organizational Overview: Services The scope of services provided by the organization ranges greatly and shows a need for an EHR system that would be able to accommodate the different departments and necessary services. The services range from providing surgeries, women's and pediatric health, cardiology and several clinical services. As well as outpatient rehab and community wellness programs. Alpha is also a 150-bed hospital, ICU beds, and a level III trauma center. Being able to share information securely across all services, being user friendly, and not alienating current dedicated staff are main goals. Analysis: Organizational Overview: Stakeholders
TITLE OF DOCUMENT 3 EHR RECOMMENDATIONS Receptionists, office, and administrative staff. These are important stakeholders because they will use the EHR the most. Inputting patient information, billing, and demographics. They will be able to provide vital feedback about the ease and challenges using the EHR system. Administration/Board members. They make important operational and financial decisions regarding the project. Clinicians. Teach/train staff in using the EHR system. They're on the front lines providing services to patients. They're vital in the design process of the EHR because they're going to be able to provide their experience about what works well and makes things easier because of their first-hand knowledge and use of systems. Physician's. The primary users of the EHR system. Their input will be crucial in ensuring the EHR system fits the facility's needs. Nursing staff. Like physicians, the nursing staff are also primary users of the EHR system. Nurses have a lot of direct patients care and documenting as well. Their input will also be crucial to the successful implementation of the EHR system. Design: Applications: Health Informatics Point of care charting. Allows healthcare providers to document plans of care, details of the patient interaction, and observations in real time so that none of the information is forgotten or entered incorrectly from entering information from memory later on. POC eliminates a lot of possible errors.
