7-2 Final Project Submission: EHR Recommendations
I have been tasked with making electronic health record (EHR) recommendations to the
healthcare organization, Alpha. In this assessment, I will be reviewing key details of the
organization, and provide my recommendation as to which EHR program they should choose. I
will also provide my recommendations on how the system should be implemented as well as
testing and training procedures.
Analysis: Organizational Overview: Organization
The Healthcare organization, Alpha, is a 150-bed hospital, with five designated intensive
care beds. Its emergency department is designated as a level III trauma center. It has five
designated care areas within the hospital and 16 auxiliary clinics. We will need to be sure that the
EHR we choose is compatible with each department and that it can safely transfer confidential
patient information back and forth between the hospital and the auxiliary services. We will also
need to make sure it has applications that can run all administrative and clinical aspects of the
organization.
Analysis: Organizational Overview: Services
HCO Alpha has designated care areas that include outpatient surgery, orthopedic surgery,
women's health, pediatrics, and cardiology. They also have the following auxiliary clinics five
family practice, two internal medicine, one cardiology, one neurology, one orthopedic and sports
medicine, one eye care, one women's health, one pediatric as well as outpatient rehabilitation
services, and a community wellness program.
Analysis: Organizational Overview: Stakeholders
EHR Recommendations
The key stakeholders who would need to be part of the EHR selection would be the CEO,
HIM Professional, Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and
Compliance Officer.
The CEO is important because they can speak to the expectations of timelines and how
the implementation and training will go. The HIM professional would be critical to the proces
because they know all the ins and outs of HIPAA and the other standards that the organization
must follow to stay within their accreditation requirements. The CIO would be important to have
included as they would be able to speak to what technology the HCO has and what new
technology would be needed to implement the EHR system. The CFO would be critical to have
as well, as they can speak to the financials of the organization. Finally, the Compliance Officer
would be important because they know what guidelines the organization needs to follow to
maintain compliance.
Design: Applications: Health Informatics
Health informatics allows confidential patient information to be shared among the
clinical staff that cares for the patient. Record keeping applications provide reminders, patient
health history, and allergies. Patient financial services allow for a more accurate billing and
reporting process for the organization. Order management applications make the process of
clinical staff ordering tests, and medications for a patient easy and done over a secure digital
connection, this can speed up the process for the
