EHR RECOMMENDATIONS
Healthcare Alpha is looking for a new electronic health record. I will briefly describe
Healthcare Alpha and its services, along with the stakeholders that will help in the selection of an
EHR. For the applications to meet the requirements outlined by regulations, they will have to be
decided per regulation and will include explanations of each requirement, as well as the scope of
functionality of the applications demonstrating why they are essential to the EHR. In addition, I
will discuss how the computer helped coding features in the application will contribute to the
effectiveness of the EHR, as well as how the security features help secure patient information
(Sayles, Trawisck, 2014).
Analysis: Organizational Overview: Organization
Organization Alpha Healthcare is a 150-bed hospital with five designated care areas like
the surgical outpatients, orthopedics, women's health, pediatrics, and cardiology and they also
have five family practice clinics, one cardiology clinic, two internal medicine clinics, one
pediatric clinic, one neurology clinic, one eye clinic, one women's health clinic, and one
orthopedic and sports medicine clinic. Alpha Healthcare is looking to implement a fully
integrated EHR system in the facility instead of the partially integrated system that they currently
use. By implementing a fully integrated system instead of the partially integrated system they
currently use, Alpha healthcare will be able to put more focus on patient care (Sayles, Trawisck,
2014).
Analysis: Organizational Overview: Services
Alpha Healthcare is a facility with 150 beds and 5 of those beds are set aside specifically
to treat patients in their intensive care unit. It offers outpatient surgery, orthopedic surgery,
cardiology, women's health, and pediatric services. Besides outpatient rehabilitation services,
Alpha Healthcare also offers wellness programs for the community (Sayles, Trawisck, 2014).

Analysis: Organizational Overview: Stakeholders
Beyond Alpha Healthcare's upper management, the stakeholders of the facility would
include the employees, from the doctors to the nurses, to the coding and billing staff to the
receptionists and janitors. Every individual involved in the healthcare system is a stakeholder,
including patients, insurers, and even pharmaceutical companies. They all play a role whether the
healthcare insurance is processed, whether great customer service is provided, or whether
someone receives healthcare at a particular facility (Wager, Lee, Glaser, 2009).
Design: Applications: Health Informatics
Health informatics deals with cognitive, information processing, and communication
tasks in healthcare practice, education, and research. In a release of information system, the staff
is given information about the request, such as whether it has been processed or not, how long
the request will take to process, overall productivity, and so on. Using an encoder and grouper
system supports staff in billing to insurance by allowing them to choose specific codes from a list
of codes that auto-generates based on information from the patient's medical record, which saves
time and ensures the accuracy of the information submitted to insurance (Wager, Lee, Glaser.
2009).
