8-2 Project Three: Systems Thinking
Description: LPO offers both in store shopping and online shopping. The LPO online ordering
starts with the customer ordering their item(s) through the LPO online portal. Once order is
placed it is then sent to the warehouse. The associate pulls the item from the warehouse shelves
in which they use a single computer to track the incoming orders, locate them and then pulls
inventory from fulfillment. Once items are pulled from inventory they are then manually updated
in the inventory tracking system. Once item has been pulled by the associate it is sent to the
fulfillment department. The fulfillment associate packages the items for delivery to customers
and the shipment is assigned a tracking number through USPS. Furthermore, when order has
shipped a LPO associate from the fulfillment department manually checks the tracking
information and updates the delivery status. Finally, the customer receives their order and then
the associate sends a thank you card to the customer thanking them for their business and asking
if they could leave a review of their item and shopping experience.
In regards to the LPO's retail store the shopping process for customers is straightforward.
Customers come to the store where they browse the inventory and but items from the store
directly. The inventory LPO's retail is drawn from the warehouse where online customers shop.
Customer's purchases are tracked through LPO's point of sale system. At the start of each week
LPO's retail manager collects the information from the retail sales and updates inventory in the
warehouse database. The LPO's store retail associate also sends thank you cards along with
coupons and offers to the LPO members of the loyalty program. However, this is only offered in

LPO's retail store. An example of feedback loops presented would be when a LPO customer
buys items from their retail store and placing orders online. Additionally, another feedback loop
would be the fulfillment associate updating the tracking information once it has been shipped to
the customer.
Recommendations: The first recommendation that I would recommend would be for LPO retail
store. My recommendation would be for inventory to be updated more than just at the beginning
of the week. I feel that it should be on a regular basis, allowing inventory to be updated on a
regular basis would ensure all items/inventory leaving LPO are accounted for. Another
recommendation would also be installing more computers in the warehouse. As of now the
warehouse operates using a single computer which is an inconvenience for the associates.
Furthermore, with one computer this can cause a slowdown in production, employees would be
unable to make changes or even update customers tracking information, especially when the only
computer is down or having network issues. If there were more computers implemented it
wouldn't matter if one computer is having issues the employees would have others to use. Also
