MedInformatix EHR would be beneficial for Alpha to select in the process of switching
from paper records to electronic health records.
EHR Selection: CMS Regulation
"Meaningful Use was a regulation issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
(CMS) outlining an incentive program for those healthcare facilities participating in Medicare
and Medicaid programs that adopt and demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health
record technology." (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) There are three components requiring
the use of a certified electronic health record:
"Must be used in a meaningful way such as e-prescribing and computerized
provider order entry" (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021)
"The exchange of health information must be used to improve quality of care"
(Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021)
"HER must be used to submit clinical quality measures identified by the ONC and
HHS" (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021)
By using MedInformatix EHR, these three components are met because e-prescribing is an
available feature and exchanging health information between patients and providers is improving
the care of the patient.
EHR Selection: Type of EHR
There are many features that are available to the healthcare organization including but not
limited to computerized provider order entry for medications, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and

EHR Selection: Patient-Centered Technology
By choosing MedInformatix EHR, Alpha is focusing on patient-centered technology by
offering a patient portal. Using the patient portal, patient's will be able to submit their
demographic information and request appointments. Alpha would also be able to "allow patients
to review their medical records, reports, and billing statements while using strict security
settings." (MedInformatix) By having the option for a patient portal, Alpha is making the care
that a patient receives to be a better experience all around. Some of the benefits of having a
patient portal are that the patient can access "lab results, physician notes, their health history,
discharge summaries, and immunizations." (Heath, 2016) Having a patient portal gives a
healthcare provider the chance to educate patients and prepare them for future visits and the
patient is better informed because they have access to their health data when they need it. (Heath,
2016)
EHR Selection: Peripherals
"An interface takes data from one information system and moves it to another
information system and has to know what data to retrieve, where the data are located, whether
any data manipulation has to be performed and where the data will be entered in the second
database." (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) It's important that the functionality of the
interface meets the needs of the organization. The selected EHR "must accommodate
collaborative work between team members of different roles, must support patient-centered care
privacy and security of data must be ensured, functions of applications should be easil
