Milestone One: Organizational Overview and Applications Organizational Overview and Applications Ashley Albright Southern New Hampshire University Organizational Overview and Applications Organization The healthcare organization, Alpha, is a hospital with 150 beds and 5 beds that are designated for intensive care. The emergency department is designated as a level III trauma center. Within Alpha, there are five designated care areas and thirteen auxiliary service lines as well as an outpatient service and a community wellness program. The five designated care areas consist of: outpatient surgery, orthopedic surgery, women's health, pediatric and cardiology. The auxiliary services are made up of five family practice clinics, two internal medicine clinics, a cardiology clinic, a neurology clinic, an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic, an eye care clinic. a women's health clinic, and a pediatric clinic. Alpha is in search of a solution that will allow information to be shared seamlessly and be user friendly for the staff. The stakeholders that need to be a part of EHR selection are clinicians, office staff, billing department and administration. Clinicians should be involved in the process because they are on the front lines providing care to patients and need to feel as if the EHR that is selected fits their needs. Office staff is important because they are responsible for inputting billing, contact, responsible for submitting claims for payment; it is important that they are working with a system that allows claims to be processed efficiently and correctly. Administration needs to be involved with the selection process because they need to be shown that the EHR system that is being selected is going to be an investment. Administration is responsible for financial and operational decisions. (Green, 2018) Applications: Health Informatics Health informatics uses information systems and technology to efficiently deliver healthcare services, manage health organizations and personnel, and perform strategic planning Organizational Overview and Applications and uses the data generated to make decisions that impact the processes and technology. (Sayles & Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) An application that should be present in an EHR regarding health informatics is an electronic medical record (EMR). An EMR is an electronic collection of patient health information and clinical care that is stored, managed and referred to buy authorized members of one healthcare entity and is comprehensive in terms of the patient's health, care and services that were provided. (Sayles & Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) Applications: Requirements "Meaningful Use was a regulation that was issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid outlining an incentive program for eligible professionals, hospitals, and critical access hospitals that adopt and successful demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology." (Sayles & Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) The EHR product must meet criteria and standards for functionality and inoperability in order to be certified. Health care organizations using certified electronic health record technology (CEHRT) can then be applied and qualified for the meaningful use incentive program. There are three components that were specified for Meaningful Use; these all require the use of CEHRT. The three components are: "must be used in a meaningful way
