Milestone Three: Implementation Implementation Ashley Albright Southern New Hampshire University Implementation Implementation: Data Entry "Direct data entry includes a number of data entry methods for entering data into an information system; some of these fields can contribute to the quality of the data by limiting the number of choices available, limiting the appropriate entries, and specifying the data required." (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) "Structured data entry guides the user during the data entry process and limits what a user can enter in the field. Some different types of structure data fields such as drop-down boxes. check boxes, and radio buttons have proven to be an effective and efficient method for capturing data which improved productivity and data quality." (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) Choices that are given to a user in drop-down boxes can be controlled by the healthcare organization based on their specific needs. (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) Using drop- down boxes improve productivity because the information being entered in the data field does not need to be typed in and data is entered consistently because each user enters the information the same way. (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) Radio buttons give the option for the user to only choose one option from the list of options that are given whereas if check boxes are used the user is given a comprehensive list and the user can select all that apply. (Sayles and Kavanaugh- Burke, 2021) Unstructured data is also an option that allows the user to type any data that they choose into the appropriate fields. (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) Implementation: Testing "EHR systems are complex hardware and software systems that interact with other systems and an effective testing process must integrate safely conducted testing in the production environment using test patients." (Wright, Aaron, and Sittig, 2016) Before going live the Implementation 3 information system needs to be tested thoroughly which helps the implementation team identify any issues that exist so that they can be corrected; testing is a repetitive process that continues until all issues have been addressed. (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) There are several types of training that are completed to prepare for the implementation of a new information system including: "Interface testing: ensures that the interface functions properly; healthcare organization must test to confirm that data from the source system are transferred into the new information system in the correct format." (Sayles and Kavanaugh- Burke,2021) Integration testing: ensures all hardware works together as needed (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) "Application testing: ensures the information system meets functional requirements and required specifications in the request for proposal" (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) "Training testing: the project team should work together to train a group of associates to see how well the training materials and format of the training work so that changes can be made to the training before training begins" (Sayles and Kavanaugh-Burke, 2021) "Documentation testing: documents such as user guides, policies and procedures. and training materials are created and are followed during testing processes to ensure that the
