General Motors (GM) is a car manufacturer that originated from Detroit, Michigan. I was
born and raised in Detroit and have a lot of family there, I also had quite a few family members
who worked for GM. GM has an organizational culture problem of not having any sense of
urgency and failing to take responsibility for their own actions. GM manufactures cars, trucks.
commercial vehicles and multiple other products. They are a multinational automotive company
that has a strong brand portfolio with more than 10 different brands. One key attribute that GM
has is that they have poor leadership. They cannot communicate properly with one another, nor
can they take accountability for their actions or responsibilities. Management doesn't care nor do
the employees. GM's global reach is one of their strengths in the company, they have a presence
in multiple countries. They also keep their facilities up-to-date with well equipped
manufacturers. GM's weaknesses are that they depend on the US market to receive a higher
revenue, Poor safety culture, poor organizational culture, and lack of accountability.
The organizational model used in this case study is the model that is dependent on stress,
formal authority, and power which is autocratic. With an organization like GM, that has a high
compliance requirement in the industry along with having little to no room for error or changes,
the autocratic model is what's best.
Most companies try to move away from the low level motivation and innovation and try to
motivate their employees to make them satisfied where they are. It's always better having
employees who are loyal and hard working. A company based on aspiring leadership is using the
supportive model. System models that are more for corporate firms that depend on the
community and trust. They are more organized, committed, and passionate about their
performance. Management is more compassionate and caring while employees are more self-
motivated. Collegial models are more for organizations like the blood blank that depends on the

partnership. They're enthusiasm is more moderate when it comes to performance. Management
and employees should be self-disciplined, have responsible behavior, do well with teamwork,
and have self-actualization.
Culture can have an effect on conflict resolution so culture could have a great impact on
the way that the company motivates their employees and the organization's functions. Culture
can also make an impact on the communication process considering that there are different
verbal and nonverbal communication styles that can help make other employees feel more
comfortable.
GM is not operating within the organizational model unique to their industry. There is no
specific title that is more responsible than another; it's the organization as a whole, from the top
of leadership to the bottom. GM lacked leadership and accountability for the wrongful doings
and let it ride out for over a decade. Everyone including top management had a " not my
problem" mentality so if management
