Colby 1 Kerry Colby James Crivello IT 212 3/19/2023 Milestone 1 project I have been selected to help with the design of the new office in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This document supplies you with my recommendations for the said network in question. This will include what hardware will be functional, the kind of LAN topology, the IP range necessary, and the mode of data transport. I will begin explaining the hardware needed for the new 50 employees there. The first thing would be a solid, fast, reliable network that will keep up with the ever- growing company, as well as the ISP needed. I would have a modem placed in the new space to allow for easy access to internet and shared drives. Of course, adding a firewall to this modem to allow for security and protection of any unwanted visitors. Another thing to include is keeping internet traffic to work related websites and emails to not clog the lines with unnecessary info. After we have internet with a modem connected, we can focus on the network ports for any desktops or laptops that will be added to the network. These would be able to be plugged in via ethernet cable if needed. Then we can work on installing the router, switch, and server in a networking closet. The router's main function is to broadcast the network so any hardware can connect from a specific range. The switch allows for devices like printers to function and talk to computers to get things done. I would recommend an unmanaged switch as it will be ready to go out of the box. After that, we will need to connect the patch panels or network ports to the switch. This allows for network connection to the company's websites and databases. The last
Colby 2 portion would be to set up each desktop and configure all the hardware so that they are ready to go for the new employees. We will also have a network printer for everyone to use. The printer will also have to be configured to allow connection to the internet and every computer for any printing jobs needed. For employees to communicate with other offices, we would want to make sure the IP ranges are similar ranges. With the company having a small portion of 50 employees, I would use a class C IP address range of 192-223. This will aide in communicating with other offices. This would be concluded with our communication media and mode of transport. We must allow this office to communicate with others, so we would use a conferencing application to allow this to happen. Cisco Webex would be this tool. It is a meeting tool that will be able to communicate with any office, in any state. This is a widely used tool and many companies trust it. The mode of transportation would be full duplex, as this would allow communications or data to be transmitted in both directions at the same time. With the
