Final Paper 2 Key Considerations Since I was tasked with the opportunity to plan out the network design for the Fayetteville office. In researching for this project, I found that we would have to have access to fiber optic internet for reliable and fast connection to keep in contact with the home office in Albany. I would also recommend a full duplex for data transmission to have full use of the network in both offices. Using an OSI model would be very important for the network to have the strength to function. For this office, we would need a managed switch that we would be able to program any VLAN and use to maximize network security. With this company, we would need routers with the right fiber cable routed throughout the office so that communications are easier between departments and the main office. Also implementing a secure firewall would add to network security. LAN Topology When it comes to topologies, I would suggest using a star topology, because cable would be routed to multiple areas and issues are less likely than that of a bus topology. It would also be good for the speed and security of the individual workstations without having to physically go to each one to check the network status. With a central hub for this topology if one computer on the network fails it wouldn't affect the others. This topology is more efficient and reliable, but it has its disadvantages. Such as, the network size would be limited due to having a set number of f ports which would make this topology more reliant on switches. So, if one switch were to go down or off then the entire network would go off as well.
Final Paper 3 Internet Service Provider In Fayetteville, there are 18 total internet providers. Including 8 Fiber Internet providers, 4 cable internet providers, 6 DSL internet providers, and 2 Satellite internet providers. For this assignment, I am going to go with Spectrum or CenturyLink. While looking at Spectrum's website, they offer an array of services. They offer 1GB download speed at the price of $49.99 a month which is a steal and a perfect fit for this company. They have reliable internet speeds that range from 200-400 Mbps. CenturyLink uses fiber optic internet offering download speeds up to 940Mbps. They are available in rural areas. Their internet speed is significantly slower than Spectrum. I think when it comes to deciding which would be the better ISP for this company I would go with Spectrum. Their internet is the fastest in the area, it's reliable and available nationwide.
