Milestone 1
I have been tasked with designing the new office in Fayetteville, North Carolina and will
provide my input regarding what hardware will be used at this location, the IP range that should
be used, the kind of Lan topology that will be used, the kind of communications media, and
mode of data transport. I first want to start with the hardware specifics.
For this office we will start off by making sure that we have a goon network connection and
choose the right ISP for our company that can provide the speeds and connection for the
company. I then would make sure that we get a modem which will connect our building to the
internet to be able to access anything. On that modem we will have a firewall connected and
configured to make sure that we can filter out all the bad traffic that could harm or slow the
network down and only keep the traffic to work related like email or work websites. Once we
have the Internet and modem connected and up and running with the firewall configured out next
step would be to wire the building with all the network ports in the wall for any desktops or
laptops with hardwire capabilities to connect to the network via ethernet cable if desired. Once
we have that in place, I will then install the router, switch, and server in our networking closet.
The router will help broadcast the network connection and each room will also have a wireless
access point to help boost the WIFI signal from the networking closet. The switch will help tie
all our devices together on the network like printers. The type of switch we will use is an
unmanaged switch as it would be ready to go out of the box. Connected directly switch will be
the server and the router. Then we will connect the patch Pannels or wall mounted network ports
to the switch which once the computers are connected to that will allow for network connection
to the inhouse server for access to the company websites and databases. Our final steps for
hooking everything up will be to getting the desktop and laptops laid out on the desks for each
employee and will start to get the hooked up and configured to the network so that way they will
all be useable on the first day the employees start. We also will get a network printer for
everyone to use and hook and configure to the network as well. Once the printer and computers
are hooked up, we will test them on the local network to make sure they work and can
communicate with the internet. For the employees to communicate with other offices we want to
make sure that the IP address range is in the same range as the other offices. With this company
being a small
