The Anatomy and Proportions in Leonardo da Vinci's Artworks

Mabrey 1 Mod 5-2 Project rough draft Introduction The first piece of art I chose is the drawing of the Vitruvian Man around 1487. Which is over the male form in two superimposed positions with arms and legs apart. Simultaneous inscribed in both a square and a circle. This piece of art is currently held at Galleries dell' Accademia in Venice, Italy. The second choice was the Child in the Womb by Leonardo Da Vinci 1510-1510. This shows a human fetus lying inside a dissected uterus. The drawing by Lenardo was the first accurate deception of a fetus in a womb. This drawing is currently held at the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle in England. I choose the Italian Renaissance era with the theme of anatomy by Leonardo Da Vinci. This theme is based on the exacting of human form. These art forms are very well known in physician's offices today. The drawings are based on a connection between natural and abstract representations of human anatomy. These are some of the earliest and most accurate art forms of anatomy to this day. These artworks will forever be held to the highest standards no matter the period of time. Historical Background The Vitruvian Man is Leonardo da Vinci's study of the human form, which is meant to be entirely proportionate through the presentation of geometry and mathematics. Its meaning is to exhibit the ideal ratios and proportions found in human anatomy. This art piece was influenced by the Roman architect Vitruvius in the 1st century BCE of proportional theories. Leonardo researched human embryology with the aid of anatomist Marcantonio Della Torre and investigated the fetus within a cadaver. The first study, measuring 30.5x22 cm, shows Mabrey 2 the fetus in a breech position inside a dissected uterus. Leonardo got a lot of his understanding from the textbooks by Avicenna, Mudinus, and Galen. Along with studies of animal's anatomy. This drawing stims from the placenta of a cow. He used his botanical knowledge in his drawing of seeds. With flower-like projections called cotyledons alongside with a modernistic approach. Comparison and Contrast
