The Invention of the Telephone and its Impact on Society

For my cultural work that I wanted to do research on for this week's assignment was the first phone that was made. The creators of the phone Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray which was roughly made around October 1876. They constructed the first electromagnetic telephone, made of an electromagnet with a nucleus in the shape of a horseshoe bat, a diaphragm of animal skin, stiffened with potassium dichromate and keeping a metal disk stuck in the middle. The 19th century is when the telephone was made in. For the 19th century it saw a lot of social change because the phone was invented, slavery was abolished, and the first and second revolutions led to massive urbanization. The 19th century also had a way to communicate before the phone was made, in 1835 there was an introduction to to the electric relay, in 1837 there was an introduction of telegraph and its Morse code protocol, 1876 the first telephone call, and 1878 the first functional light bulb. So, the 19th century was going through a lot of changes throughout the years, and it seems like they were not only expanding technology, but they were also expanding science to see how far they could go or to see what all they could make. I would say that this cultural work belongs to all human beings from where the first phone was made in 1876 to today where we have phones that have touch screens that is not hanging on a wall. I say this because us as human beings are evolving, and we are evolving so much that the technology around us is also evolving. From being able to send a phone call from a phone that is hanging from a wall to being able to FaceTime the person you want to from the phone in your hand The telephone forever has changed the way humanity interacts. From having to go see someone to instantly being able to communicate with others from different distances. Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison said, "It is true that having the ability to hear the voices of loved ones over great distances changed how the American people thought about moving farther away from their roots." The telephone because a tool for grassroots organizations, expanding democratic participation and leading to advances in communication. You can also say that telephones could possibly be the reason that some slavery organizations stopped having slaves.
