For this assignment I have chosen someone from the twentieth century. His name was
Andy Warhol. I think that Andy made an important contribution to art and culture because he
was widely considered the leading figure of the Pop Art movement which he created some of the
most iconic works for the twentieth century.
Since Andy Warhol was one of the most important artists of pop art, he is best
remembered for his mass-produced painting of Campbell's soup cans in 1962, he created
hundreds of other works ranging from commercial advertisements to films. He is some of his art
works,Elvis 1 and 2 1963,Brillo Soap Pads Boxes in 1964, Marilyn Monroe in 1968
Andy Warhol made his work not to question, but to explore the connection between
celebrity culture and artistic expression. He was already able to place himself in the art
community in his early life. While taking a closer look at the mystery behind some of his most
iconic works of Art I see that some cultures could question the way that he painted his paintings.
For example, (I will show a picture) in the Marilyn Monroe painting he adds all sorts of colors
and contrast to his painting of her.
Why would he add color if the original picture was black and white? This is a
very easy. The colors, encapsulate the pop art movement that he had founded. Also, an
interesting fact, Warhol was more popular with the painting of his Campbell's Soup
painting then he was with his Marilyn Monroe painting, but he made her the first subject
of his screen printing technique which is all the colors and contrast that he adds.
