4 1 Discussion Classical Influences
For this discussion post I decided to look into the The Choragic Monument of Lysicrates 335
BCE. There are many different monuments all over the world that are significant landmarks to
certain events. This monument caught my attention because of the God Dionysus, who was the
God of wine and fertility. He was most involved of the theater and musical performances.
Lysicrates is the one who authorized the production of the Choragic Monument and he often
offered prizes for the best performances. This monument spoke to me by showing the
significance of the theatre and other performances. In a way the monument is a trophy dedicated
to the theater, and can be related to how celebrities still receive awards and trophies for their
performances in movies, arts, and music.

Alexander, this is an awesome post! When I was reading about the Theater of Dionysus it reminded me of an arena that is close to my home. If you have ever been to the circus or a hockey game the seats and the stage area is set up just the same. I love the comparison you chose, the structures are so similar! Have you been inside the Hollywood Bowl personally?

This is another great comparison. The two structures do look very similar. It is a little hard to tell in the pictures, but the orders of the columns look different to me. The temple of Athena Nike looks like it has Ionic order and the New York Public Library looks like it has Corinthian order Either way, your post was very informative and interesting to read about.
