Managing a Diverse International Team

1 Michael Sacks Southern New Hampshire University INT 220 Module 6 2 I hope this email finds you well. I am excited about the opportunity to manage this new team. I am writing this email to outline my plan for managing our new and diverse team. It will be essential to the productivity of the company for us to assess the cultural differences, potential conflicts, management approaches, holiday policies, as well as coming up with a team expectation and communication plan. First, we will look at the new team and discuss the cultural differences of Kasper, Kelly, Syed, Nina, and myself. Each team member is from a different country. Kaspar is from Japan. After doing some research on Japanese culture I discovered Japan ranks higher in Masculinity and Uncertainty avoidance than the other team members countries. The high masculinity score indicates their society is driven by competition, achievement and success. Kelly is from the United States who ranks highest in individualism. This score is much higher than the other three team members counties and will be important to note regarding business environment. Syed is from the UAE who scored highest with power distance. A high-power distance score indicates people there accept a hierarchical order and no further justification is needed. Lastly, Nina is from Chile. Chile receives high scores for uncertainty avoidance, which indicates a strong need for rules in order to structure life. Chile also received a high indulgence score indicating less importance placed on work. "Common issues among global teams are collaboratingftscheduling across time zones, international laws, cultural and language barriers, and access to resources". (Dunung,2019fl Each of our four team members speaks a different native language. Therefore, language barrier is a particular issue to focus on. Our team will need to have weekly, potentially bi-weekly video calls to discuss each person's job and progress that week as a group as well as potentially one 3 on one meetings. A second common issue we will need to specifically focus on will be the differences in cultures. Chile, Japan, and the UAE have similar business environments and differ from the Unites States. The U.S. has a much more collective group environment than the others and we will need to give the new team members time to become comfortable in this type of work environment. My management style will be firm and flexible. I will give each team member their own specific instructions on their work for that week, month, quarter, ect. I will promote workshopping sessions also so that each member has an opportunity to give input on each other's projects. I want to create an environment where people are not afraid to give their opinions and each team member feels a certain level of independence and high moral. I will also be regularly asking the team for any ways I can improve or change our current system. Giving the team members input could lead to a higher sense of involvement in the company. Given the diverse locations of
