Marketing Strategies in the Dental Field

Looking back through my life, now knowing a little about marketing, I see that marketing plays a large role in my day to life. I would have never thought of it before this class. I always liked cute or funny TV ads but never thought about how marketing strategies can affect purchasing decisions of consumers. The 4Ps is prevalent in most product or service markets. Product positioning in a store is so important, if it catches the eye the consumer is more likely to purchase it. If the item is on sale, even better, why not try something new. I am in the dental field, have been for a long time. Having moved from the clinical area to now being a practice manager, I feel that dentistry in general could use a new marketing strategy. Sure, there are large corporations out there, more so than independent practices, but treating the patient as an individual is becoming a lost art. The dental field has always had a negative connotation surrounding it and that needs to be changed. I think performing secondary research and looking at what consumers have already said about the dental field could help develop a new marketing strategy. Take how people already feel and use it to change the way going to the dentist is viewed. Why not think of it like going to the spa, or having a salon day or going to the barber shop and having a nice hot towel treatment? Going to the dentist should be viewed as just as important as going for an annual physical, after all dental health is actually the doorway for whole body health. Did you know that? I would start a strong social media campaign and couple it with TV ads to normalize going to the dentist and show people that it an important part of your whole body health.
