I don't have a favorite brand, unlike my husband or child. I am much more about price. I have
more brands that I will stay away from and just not buy. It took me a while to come up with a
brand that I would buy over anything else and at almost any price. JanSport is the only brand that
comes to my mind.
I got my first backpack in middle school and it lasted me to the end of high school. When I
started college 10 years ago, I bought myself a new backpack. I remember not caring about the
total because I true fully believed I would get every dollar worth from it. I still own that
backpack and use it. When looking on the website, I didn't know how many other products they
have besides backpacks. I saw lunch bags, laptop items, and several more products.
When my child started to go to school he wanted the cute backpack with the characters on it. We
did that for a few years, buying a new backpack each year. After two to three years, I couldn't
waste our money anymore. He has a very oversize backpack for his needs but we shouldn't have
to buy him another until he goes off to college himself.
JanSport can be found in almost all school bookstores and different retail businesses. They are
online and have a social media presence. I have signed up for emails in the past. I am not right
now but I would guess it's like another brand. I get two to three emails daily for Old Navy and
Victoria Secret. If I received fewer emails weekly, I know I would look at them instead them
going right into the trash.
In 2014 there was a movement to have colleges to cut their contracts with JanSport's parent
company VF Corporation until safety protocols were put into place; it was the Bangladesh Fire
and Building Safety Accord. It was an international agreement to ensure a safe and suitable
factory workplaces in Bangladesh. This is something that could have been avoided and also
quickly made acceptable without having to go to those measures.
