UNDERSTANDING DEVELOPMENT AND BEHAVIOR
Educators play a critical role in improving and nurturing the self-worth and dignity of the
student. Through class interactions and class instructions, the teachers can positively and directly
impact the students. Students usually identify with their teachers and will, in most cases, gather
strength from the teacher. This has led to the increasing identification of school and the teachers
as essential aspects in determining and improving the dignity and self-worth of the students. It is
the will and goal of every student in the classroom to become successful in class.
In some cases, they might fail to achieve this goal, and therefore, their self-worth and
dignity ate impacted. Therefore, it is the teacher's responsibility to make them feel worthwhile
again and encourage them to be more. It is also the responsibility of the teacher to identify the
learning challenges of the different students in class. The teacher has to use every instructional
strategy available to ensure the student improves their self-worth and dignity. Some of the
students do not openly show the lack of self-worth and dignity and therefore it is the teacher who
is tasked with the role of finding out if the students are battling with these challenges or not.
Even though the students might not be performing excellently in class, they have unique
learning styles that the teacher should identify and alert them of. After identifying the students'
unique strengths, the teacher should ensure that they make the appropriate adjustments and
accommodations to the program. The accommodation of the strengths and weaknesses of the
students in the learning program helps in maximizing the students' success and therefore
improving their self-worth and dignity. The teachers also teach for problem solving and decision
making purposes instead of teaching for the purpose of passing the exam alone.
