CYB 310: NETWORK DEFENSE
JUNE 12TH, 2022 | SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERISTY
We all depend on technology to complete everyday tasks. Network issues can cause an
organization lost productivity and money. As a Cybersecurity analyst, it is necessary to
understand how to resolve network issues. For this evaluation, I will provide a report that will
explain how to troubleshoot issues with a specific network. Below I will detail the steps I would
take and the network components I would troubleshoot to overcome any challenges.
The workstations on Network 2 cannot access The Internet.
After analyzing the diagram, there several issues that we can resolve on the network. None of
the workstations are connecting to the network switch. Two workstations have broken
connections, and the other has an issue at its port. The connection at the switch is fine. However,
there is an issue with the router connecting to the main switch. The main switch does not have
any connection issues. The main router that connects the network to the internet is not working.
which is causing an issue with the entire network
First, we can fix the issue with the workstation with broken connections by switching out the
current ethernet cables for new ones. Since all three hosts are using the same hardware, there is
no issue with it, so we will have to check the configurations on the third workstation. The host-
based firewall appears to be preventing data from traveling to the switch. The Network 2 router
appears to be configured with the wrong ports. To resolve this, we can unplug the router
connections and connect them to the correct ports. Now the data can flow until it hits the main
router connected to the internet. The physical connections on the router are fine, and
compatibility is not the problem. The issue that is stopping traffic is the configuration of the
network-based firewall. The firewall has been incorrectly configured and stops all traffic to and
from the internet. Reconfiguring the firewall settings to allow traffic from the internet to the
router and the router to the internet will solve this issue. If these steps are completed in this
manner, we should be able to resolve the network issues
Network_1 segment needs to have all access to the Network_3 segment
After analyzing the diagram, several issues need to be resolved so the Network 1 segment can
have all access to the Network 3 segment. The connections at each host's port in Network 1 are
not functioning correctly. The connections from the hosts to the Network 1 switch are working
correctly, so the cabling is fine. The connections between the Network 1 switch and the main
switch are working correctly. There is an issue between the main switch and the Network 3
router. The connection between the router and switch is broken, which is stopping the flow of
data. The Network 3 hosts also have the same issue as the Network 2 hosts. After checking the
issues from
