5-2 Final Project Milestone Two: Challenge the Process and Enable Others to Act

The first of my leadership area for improvement will have to be Inspire a Shared Vision. The
reason that I chose this area is because the vital to any company being successful is the shared
vision. I need to work on getting others to realize and contribute in sharing their ideas and
opinions and feelings in the vision. I have a bad habit of if you want something done right you
do it yourself, so I do not always delegate work. I have had co-workers in the past that have not
been competent to accomplish the task or project assigned to them. I end up finishing or
correcting the work at the last minute. Since I have been let down so many times by co-workers.
I tend to just do it myself. I am working on this as I have realized it may appear that I do not trust
them. I have recently been assigning tasks and projects and following up on the more regular
basis. I am able to go into the system and view their work Although, at times I find this
frustrating because I feel the work is being done twice. I am assigning tasks and project anyway
because I can provide feedback during the process and offer suggestion in where they can
improve. The feedback is necessary for the team to gain more confidence and build trust.
Delegation is a benefit to everyone as it saves my time in the long run and developed my team.
The second of The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership is Inspire a Shared Vision. The
second area for improvement is to enable others to act. This is important because if we cannot
convey our thoughts and opinions to our team how are we going to achieve our goals. By giving
them possession and by letting them participate in the vision we will empower them to act.
Collaboration enables the team to and gain trust with you and the team. The more trusted people
feel the comfortable the feel in sharing their ideas. This helps create a satisfied work
environment. This will build a stronger team and will work harder if they feel they are being
trusted. I will allow the team to work together on projects. In doing so this will facilitate more
ideas and different perspectives. It also allows for creativity and teamwork. When the team can
brainstorm ideas, the ideas fostered are creative and free to think outside of the box. They should
be able to experiment with new ideas and allow them to prove or disprove that they work. The
other area of improvement is Encourage the Heart. These last two are similar but still important
as they enable to staff to get on board with the vision. These goals can be accomplished by
