Manufacturing Requirements
Developing an eco-friendly laundry detergent for the rural Indian villages will require an
efficient manufacturing system. Our main goal is to create additional revenue for Husk Power
System; with a manufacturing system in place, Sinha and his team can also target quality control.
A manufacturing system is any combination of actions and processes used throughout the
production of any goods (Lemay, 2021). Creating a seamless system will provide a mean that
will provide commands to be transmitted to machines, distribute orders to workers, and ensure
the quality of the product is sufficient. While developing powder laundry detergent, it is
important to remember the other ingredients that will be included in production. The rice husk
ash that Husk Power Systems will use for manufacturing contains the main ingredients, silica
that is turned into sodium silicate, but to make sure the product is legitimate, raw materials like
Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STTP) will be used to soften water and guard off dirt particles. There
are multiple phosphates and acidification processes that are also included and will contribute to
the overall development of our powdered laundry detergent (Hemalatha, 2018).
With these facts known, the utilization of batch and continuous manufacturing processes
should be used in the development of powder laundry detergent. The raw material mixing in
large tanks can be done in batches, but the production will remain continuous. Batch
manufacturing involves a set of ingredients and a sequence of one or more production steps that
follow a pre-defined order. A set number of product(s) are produced at the end of each sequence
to make a single batch (Lemay, 2021). Due to the villages being small, I think it would be
effective for Sinha to start in a batch process mindset and grow into a continuous system as his
demand increases. The batch process will help him with quality control and help gather a
process that will create a shorter production time. After demand increases, Sinha should consider
the continuous manufacturing process. This process moves raw materials from the start of the
process through each production step to a final product. Instead of waiting on the order of
product to be completed, like batch processing, continuous processing will allow production
processes to move forward continuously to produce additional products for distribution (Lemay
2021).
Inventory Management
With the usage of raw materials, product forms, and packaging, my team will have to
place focus on inventory management as it is critical for the cost saving, we are looking to
establishing for Sinha. We know Sinha's team will be working to create power generators and
powder laundry detergent from rice husk ash and multiple raw materials. Our aim is to
effectively improve Husk Power Systems manufacturing accuracy, stay organized and utilize of
space to its fully capability, cut down on waste, and save time and money by improving
