COM-225: Communication with Diverse Audiences
Gretchen Arthur
5 September 2021
When me and my friend released our first clothing line for Stages Clothing, we had every
intention with reaching an audience that consisted of young adults and teenagers, but we went in
the opposite direction. Most of our sales came from middle aged adults and children. We were
not necessarily disappointed with the result in sales but felt like we had not reached our intended
target audience. Our clothing line style is supposed to be modern, trendy, and comfortable but the
main part of those three adjectives that reached our consumer was comfortable which appealed to
the middle-aged adults. Stages in Stages Clothing is supposed to represent stages in life, and we
really wanted to address stages that young adults and teenagers may go through with our
clothing, but we have pushed more towards the message of comfortable clothing too much. One
principle we could've implemented to be more effective in reaching our target audience is to
analyze the design of our product. While our clothing we provided was comfortable it may not be
the most suited style of clothing for the young adults and teenagers; a reevaluation in the style of
clothing may have reached our intended audience. Another principle we could have implemented
was having more targeted advertising that led up to our launch day. When we released our
clothing line there was no launch day, so we had no marketing that led up to the release of our
clothing line which in turn led to us not reaching our intended audience. What we should have
done was release a launch day two weeks in advance and in those two weeks release
advertisements and promotions about the message behind our clothing, so we could've been
more intentional in advertising our product to young adults and teens.
