Running Head: BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Business Communication Southern New Hampshire University Southern New Hampshire University pg.1 BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explain how business communication is significant to organizational businesses. Communication can be defined as the transmission of a message form a sender to a receiver in understandable manner. (Sanchez, 2009). Business communication is essential so organizations can keep a high level of quality and service. Organizations implement their high quality service by ensuring that communication on levels are adequate. In this paper I will go further in depth in describing the role of interpersonal communication both as a manager and as an employee while specifying techniques to overcome communication barriers and the roles of international and intercultural interpersonal communications in today's global businesses. Furthermore, I will describe both verbal and nonverbal management communication, explain approaches for effective written management communication, analyze various approaches for engaging an audience during a presentation and encouraging active listening while describing effective methods of conflict resolution and analyzing techniques for leading teams and group meetings. BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Business Communication Effective Communication Norms "Communication influences how and what we learn, how we interact with others, and how we make a living." (Baack, 2012, pg 1.1) Communication is essential to our everyday lives, for great leaders excel in communication. Excellent communicators are distinctive, distinguished, and superb. Without effective communication businesses will be unable to successfully communicate with other companies. Miscommunication or non-communication can become an internal conflict, which will also have an outer effect on customers and other companies who are connected. Essentially, communication problems in the workplace can destroy a company. According to the Mindtools editorial team, "Don't waste time conveying messages that isn't necessary." It is important to have effective communication norms within business setting because communication for multiple organization provides understanding, clarity, it motivates, set standards, and or obligation. Communication is information shared between people. To use a simile, communication is like a bridge that connects us. In our textbook, the author Baack (2012) makes it clear by quoting Fabun 1968's statement that communication is "transmitting, receiving and processing information" (Baack, 2012, 1.1) These steps play an important role in the success of the sender and the receiver of communication. Effective communication norms in business settings must master written, verbal and non- verbal, and internal and external communication. Written communication consist of memos, emails, text, and proposals. Within the past decade so many different social media platform sites have risen such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and LinkedIn; these platforms also have helped companies establish their communication with customers, consumers, and co- workers.
