Omar J. Saez ENG-328 -- Poetry Writing Workshop Professor Julie Ramon May 15,2022 The Saint: A Petrarchan Sonnet by Omar J Saez How quick a saint can give up in the fight? Forgiveness -- what the Bible says exists. Is that so when venom spews out these lips? Deception - I'm the snake that caused the bite. Transgressions -- my confessions. Where is Christ? Wrath replaces commandments on my list, undeserving of the blood, cross, and whips. Resentment births rejection towards new life, but don't fret, see the saint has not vanished. Worry not, righteousness has not seen death. a tiny gleam still is seen in the dark. Angels, demons, battles, I won't panic. love, faith, purge the wickedness of my flesh. Affliction, it won't overtake my heart
