Felicia Green IHP-330-H4176 Principles of Epidemiology 24EW4 March 8, 2024 The articles I chose from the CDC website were chosen because I was curious about the way that Covid-19 spreads and what the long-term effects could be from catching the disease. There is a lot of misinformation online, and I wanted to know what the facts were versus the propaganda. I stumbled upon the second article about "Long Covid" and that interested me because I had never heard that term before, and I was curious about what that may be. Additionally, there was a lot of great information in both that I felt related to each other well. One major thing that I learned about the disease it that it spreads really quickly. Unlike the flu or a common cold, with this virus, you may not show any symptoms and still are able to infect others. Individuals with underlying health issues, certain disabilities and older adults are at a higher risk that others to catch Covid. This information was eye opening because as someone who has an underlying health condition, I was not aware of the severe risk factors. The article stated to take extra precautions such as staying up to date with vaccines, getting enough fresh air, and making sure your hands are clean at all times. Long Covid is described as people who have been previously infected with the Covid 19 disease suffer from long term effects from the infection. When a person has Covid, 4 weeks after the infection is when Long Covid begins. Because there is no test to determine if a person has Long Covid, based on your health history your healthcare provider considers the diagnosis. The article that I chose have elements that help provide information that is needed to complete the final projects. These elements include risk factors, and also provide great
information about the preventive measures that can be taken to lower the risk of catching Covid. Prevention of Covid, in these articles, go into detail on a primary and secondary level of what we can do to stay safe. These articles are useful because they give a complete overview of the disease both the initial disease and the long Covid disease. There is a lot of important information such as how Covid spreads, the different variants of Covid 19 and the treatment that is available. The second article is helpful because it relates the after effects of Covid to the average person.
