Provide a brief description of SARS, supporting your description with sources from the case study. Severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, is a respiratory illness caused by a strain of the coronavirus. Common symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, dry cough, and shortness of breath. According to the case study, the virus spread rapidly across the globe. 2. Describe the patterns you can identify in the population impacted by the SARS outbreak, citing the case to support your response. SARS was first reported in February 2003 in Asia and spread to North America, South America, and Europe before being contained. Persons living with someone who had contracted SARS were the most at risk for developing symptoms. The CDC reports that no known cases of SARS have been reported since 2004. 3. Draw conclusions about the mode of disease transmission based on your analysis of the disease and population. SARS appears to be spread by close person-to-person contact via respiratory droplets when a person sneezes or coughs.
