2 The first article chosen was an article on Health Equity on Coronavirus from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This article was chosen as it provides information on COVID-19 effects on different demographics of people. This included data by age race, ethnicity, and sex. This correlates to the section of the final paper for Population and Health Issue. For population, the article discusses different demographics and the risks that are correlated to these different groups of people because of physical, social, and economic disparities. This article also provides up to date data on the number of incidences and prevalence in the different communities. This is mostly focused from a US standpoint, but additional articles can be provided for a global understanding for a holistic approach. Due to the diversity of the US, this may not be needed, but would be interesting to dissect the differences. The data provided also has mortality rates by the different demographics as well. The second article chosen was an article on Prevention on Coronavirus from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The article was chosen as it provides additional information the different types of preventions. Now, the process of noting the levels of prevention from primary to tertiary prevention strategies will be done through this analysis for the final paper. This will help better understand the impacts COVID-19 had on the population that lead to the needs for prevention. These articles will help me assess the resources needed to provide strategies that can combat the effects of COVID in populations that were impacted the most. An additional article from the CDC may be used as it provides initial thoughts on strategies from the CDC to combat the disparity in populations to reach health equity. This can provide historical background on understanding how transmission rates were viewed and the effects of COVID would have on the population.
3 Use below for final paper Chain of Infection Components Print The chain of components has six sections. They include: · Microorganisms: Disease producing, also called pathogens · Virus, parasite, fungus, bacterium Risk factors: Virulence, pathogenicity, ability to enter host · Reservoir/Source: Environment/habitat where a pathogen can live and multiply Environmental surfaces/equipment, body fluids (blood, saliva), urine/fecal material, food/water, soil, skin, respiratory tract · Portal of Exit: How the pathogen exits or leaves reservoir Skin to skin, skin to surface, blood, mucous membranes, oral cavity, fecal Other potentially infectious material (OPIM): Seminal fluid, joint fluid, saliva, urine/fecal material, any body fluid contaminated with blood · Modes of Transport: How a pathogen moves from reservoir to susceptible host o Direct Transmission: Airborne, droplet, contact (e.g., skin), bite, needlestick or other sharps injury Indirect Transmission: Fomites - contaminated equipment or medication (multidose vials, single dose vials), vectors, food, water · Portal of Entry: Opening where the pathogen may enter Body openings (e.g., mouth, eyes, urinary
