COVID-19 Outbreak and Its Global Impact

A Novel Coronavirus Outbreak: A Teaching Case-Study I. Population: The novel coronavirus illness, or COVID-19, is a contagious disease that is induced by intense critical respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that widely spread and expanded all over China in late December in the year of 2019 and has since spread around the world, causing a world concern of a global pandemic. According to Bashier, from the end of 2016 to the beginning of 2020, the Chinese national authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about "forty-four cases of patients suffering from pneumonia of unclear cause" (Bashier, 2020). For further investigation, pneumonia was linked to the coronavirus family, their symptoms including illnesses varying from typical cold symptoms to extreme conditions like intense acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) (Bashier, 2020). The first pneumonia cases were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019, with this disease's unknown and unclear cause (Bashier, 2020). The virus is answerable for COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 and was first origin found in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, leading to a pandemic concern worldwide. China is considered to be the third-largest pharmaceutical supplier compared to some other countries. Still, their invention and spread of counterfeit drug problems have affected the population negatively, worsening existing health issues like respiratory diseases due to air pollution and a high number of smokers in the area (Bashier, 2020). China has gone through many previous outbreaks, such as the 2003 SARS outbreak, which led to a significant 1.2 million premature deaths due to pollution since 2010 (Bashier, 2020). We can see that China was an epicenter, with its expansive geographic ranges and large population. The country has areas, independent regions, cities, and particular administrative areas. The population's unassuming demography reveals that between 15 and fifty-nine years old (70 percent), less than forty-year- olds (17 percent), and over sixty-four (13 percent). The country has encountered rapid urbanization and has many development projects, with the longest road and railway systems. These developments are causing more problems for the environment, which puts our health at risk. Considering China's large population, rapid urbanization, and environmental challenges due to development, it is vital to understand how these factors contribute to the coronavirus's growth and impact, as well as the importance and potential cause of coronavirus growth posed by such a populated and interconnected state. The virus causes COVID-19 to spread quickly from person to person due to close contact with each other. This study concentrates on the exposure to COVID-19 in Wuhan, China, in 2019 and its rapid global spread concerning individuals of all ages and health conditions. The elderly, lack of immunization, and anyone with current health issues are particularly at risk. The analysis covers the period from the outbreak's onset to the present.
