1. Having read the articles presented in this module, reflect on how their discussion of
intent and the changes to it affect your interpretation or understanding of the Statue
of Liberty.
Before reading the articles I knew nothing about the Statue of Liberty other than it being a gift to
America. My thoughts were that it was just a statue. After reading the article my first thought
was it was a symbol of immigration. My understanding now is it is a symbol of liberty for
immigrants.
2. Think about the artifact that you are studying for Project 1. Pose one question about
the intent of the creator of the artifact. In one to two paragraphs, explain one
approach that you may take to find the answer to that question.
The artifact I'm studying is the American flag. The question I'm posing is Why the American
flag? What about the flag made them want to use it as symbol of freedom. One approach I would
be taking is research. I'll be looking into articles, interviews, documents to find out the back
history. Hopefully this will give me the answers I'm seeking
