When looking at the CDC website, I first chose to look through the "Information for
Healthcare Professionals and Laboratories" to get in depth information on Salmonella. I chose
this article because I am a health care professional and I thought it would have some of the best
information on the bacterial infection. On this web page, I learned that children under 5 years old
are the most likely to get a Salmonella infection. I also learned that the "CDC estimated
Salmonella causes about 1.35 million illnesses, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the
United States every year" (CDC, 2019). Elements in this article that are related to the final
project are the resistance testing, antibiotics, and how the infection spreads. This resource may be
useful when completing the final project because it portrays some of the topics discussed
throughout the final.
The second article I chose to look through on the CDC website was the Surveillance on
Salmonella. I chose this article because as I was reading through the final project rubric and I
noticed part II was all about the Surveillance of Salmonella. I learned that the CDC has multiple
surveillance systems for acquiring information about Salmonella. "They serve different purposes
and provide information on various features of the organism's epidemiology, such as number of
outbreaks, antimicrobial-resistant infections, and subtypes" (CDC, 2019). I found some useful
