The articles I chose were very insightful and I got a lot of solid information about
Salmonella disease. The sources were very relative and I felt that they were spot on with
what I was looking for when I started to look up sources. The article from the
CDC has a lot of useful information on the disease itself and how it spreads, how it is
treated and the ins and outs of the disease. The second source I chose because it
gives a great example of how this disease took over peoples lives by using a real life
example.There are many elements that are included in my sources that I chose that
relate to the final project. The source from the CDC uses terms like risk factors, mode of
transmission and also gives a lot of information about the prevention strategies.
These terms are all a large part of the final project. The second source as mentioned
above is more of a real life scenario but this uses key elements as in identifying the
population, explaining the odds of infection,explains the cost and also gives information
of feedback from the public. This is all relative to the final project and it makes
these sources very useful to me.
I am currently employed in health care but I used to work in food service and I am
very educated on food borne illnesses and their implications. These sources gave me even
more information to add to the knowledge I already had about it. From the CDC source ,
I learned that epidemiologist use advanced technology to identify the source and pin
point what animal and farm is came from."Salmonella are divided into serotypes
according to structures on the bacteria's surface. Serotyping is used during outbreak
investigations to link cases of illness with similar bacteria and track them to the source
Some serotypes are only found in one kind of animal or in a single place."(CDC) This is
beyond interesting to me. It is amazing that we can track down the source of the disease
This is super helpful and it cuts out a lot of investigating for the professionals. Both of
these sources as mentioned above are relevant and will be useful to me throughout my
final project.
