Provide a brief description of SARS , supporting your description with sources from the case. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS, according to the Epiville Department of Health is "a viral respiratory illness caused by a virus from the coronavirus family." sARS is spread through personal contact with an infected individual. 2. Describe the patterns that can be identified in the population impacted by the SARS outbreak, citing the case to support your response. The city of Epiville is a relatively small city of 100,000 people in the south eastern United States. In the case study we are looking at Amoy Apartment Complex specifically. Within the complex that has 200 units and has 600 residents. There are some who have already passed away due to who were showing SARS like symptoms, 53 were officially given the diagnosis of SARS. Those 53 people overcame the virus and are still living. In the data reviewed, the Amoy Apartment Complex has the most occurrence of the SARS illness at one time. Passive data was received from hospitals in the general area of those who were infected with SARS. 3. Draw conclusions about the mode of transmission of the disease based on your analysis of the disease and population. SARS is transmitted via close contact with someone who is infected with the virus. The people who reside at the Amoy Apartment Complex live in such a close proximity to one another, there was a rapid spread of the virus. In order to prevent the further spread of the virus, those who are exhibiting signs and symptoms of SARS need to be placed in isolation immediately. AIso, those who have been exposed or in direct contact with any individual who is exhibiting symptoms should be placed in an isolation hold until they are symptom free for at least three days. By following these guidelines, the residents at Amoy Apartment Complex will be able to safely and effectively minimize the spread of the virus within their community.
