PHE-330 MODULE ONE JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT: LOCATING RESOURCES PHE-330 Module One Journal Assignment: Locating Resources Shani Hudgens Southern New Hampshire University PHE-330 MODULE ONE JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT: LOCATING RESOURCES 2 PHE-330 Module One Journal Assignment: Locating Resources When referencing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Questions & Answers webpage seemed to be a great place to start to become more familiar with the infection, symptoms, and causes. The bacteria, Salmonella, is divided into many types with approximately 100 of these types affecting the human population (Salmonella | Questions & Answers, 2020). The webpage gives the reader an overview of the bacteria and how it infects people. The webpage has many hyperlinks to explore more information on Salmonella, who is at higher risks, and treatments. Starting research with the webpage will help the readers have an understanding of the basic information to move forward with the final project (Salmonella | Questions & Answers, 2020). The Questions & Answers (2020) webpage gives information which will help to comprehend the population at risks, symptoms of becoming infected with Salmonella, the tests that determine infection, and treatment methods. Facts on Salmonella that are contained in the webpage are tools to help to avoid becoming infected, the spreading of Salmonella, and antibiotic treatments for some of the weaker patients who contract Salmonella. Antibiotics can be less effective if a person has taken antibiotics when it was not necessary (Salmonella | Questions & Answers, 2020) An early childhood memory is my grandmother going to Mexico and coming home with typhoid fever. Until now, I was not aware of typhoid and paratyphoid was related to Salmonella in any way. What many people called "food poisoning" was the only sickness that is thought of that would link to Salmonella PHE-330 MODULE ONE JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT: LOCATING RESOURCES Five Fast Facts (2020) is the second webpage within the CDC's website focuses on prevention which should be the goal of public health professionals. The five recommendations should safeguard people and their families against Salmonella. Knowing that there are many foods that a person can become sick with Salmonella. Salmonella can be passed from animals to humans and between humans; therefore, handwashing is essential to reduce risks of becoming infected. Salmonella is also transmitted at a higher rate in the summer because of food nt being kept at room-temperature. Salmonella is more of a threat to certain groups of people. These groups include young children, adults aged 65 and older, people with weak immune systems, and pregnant women are at a higher risk (People With a Higher Risk of Food Poisoning | Food Safety | CDC, 2020). The reason these articles or weblinks were chosen to use for resources is that having knowledge of facts instead of unjustified information will help those people to avoid Salmonella There were several aspects that I was unaware of before researching and this will have an impact on the final project
