I read an article on Multistate Outbreaks of Salmonella It shows how salmonella
outbreaks across the country and how the CDC responds to it. It gives a detailed list of reports
and where and what food served as the vehicle of disease. For example, in October 2021 here
was an outbreak of salmonella from Bright Farms prepackaged salad

put their products on recall. These states were Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and
Pennsylvania. The last state being my home state. This was a firsthand experience since I work at
Walmart, and we had to recall the packaged salad. This article will help with the project since
food plays a necessary role in society. We all need to eat.
The other article was "Emergence of Extensively Drug-Resistant Salmonella Typhi
Infections Among Travelers to or from Pakistan - United States, 2016-2018". This article
talked about how drug resistant salmonella is causing a typhoid fever outbreak in Pakistan. This
is fascinating showing that while yes, it is important to treat the disease that we should not use
the same thing. Eventually the microorganisms learn and adapt to it. An example of this is
MRSA bacteria resistant to penicillin and a more recent idea is different strains of the
coronavirus. There is also the idea that different climates and regions can affect the spread of a
disease. Lyme disease is more prevalent in forested areas or areas with a high deer or deer tick
population.
