Introduction
People and mental health. What is mental health? How has the way human beings cope
with mental health over the years? Why is having good mental health is important for one's
overall well-being? This project will discuss mental illness history, treatments for people with
mental health over the years, and where is our state of mental health now?
History
In the middle age, mental disorders were viewed as a witchcraft, demonic, or possessed.
Mentally ill were segregated from society and treatments for these patients were mostly torture
than to help. Psychiatric hospital, was also known as asylums, were facilities to catered to treat
illness for mentally individual. However, these treatments were more like punishments than to
help. Terrifying treatments such as electric shock, ice baths, bloodletting, straitjackets, isolation,
and even surgical operation to create holes in patient's skull. Over the years the view of mental
illness had changed for the better. Treatments for individuals with mental illnesses has improved
drastically with more supportive approach.
Humanities
Humanities is the study of culture, value, beliefs, and ethical concern. The following wil
focus on the cultural impacts on mental health and how culture impacts our mental health. Every
culture has a different view around mental health. Culture influence how people view mental
health. Culture can determine how much support an individual will receives support from family
friends, or community.
The Natural and Applied Sciences
The natural and applied sciences lens and mental health, over the years science and
technology had discovers new and improve methods diagnosed and treat patients with mental
health.
