44. a. When a CH bond is broken this is an endothermic process which means it will need more energy
than released. So, a methane molecule CH4 has more energy because it is also moving in the
stratosphere, and it has changed potential energy to kinetic energy.
b. The second water molecule has more kinetic energy because it is moving faster than the first and
changed the potential energy to kinetic energy. The higher temperature of 200 degrees would increase
the thermal energy as well. The second water molecule can do more work because it is moving faster.
c. The iodine gas has a higher kinetic energy than solid iodine because the gas molecules are moving
quickly and can do more work than solid iodine where the molecules are in tight space
d. Energy is released when a chemical bond is formed so NO, and the O atom have greater potential and
kinetic energy and can do more work.
e. The potential energy is higher the further the magnets get away from each other.
f. UF has much higher mass than water and as they both are moving, they are converting potential
energy to kinetic energy to, but the UF is going to have more potential to do more work because it has a
greater mass than water.

63.a. the particles would be sticking together at first and then changes to a liquid form they work
separate and speed up as they convert to a gas which is in no particular shape, moving in random within
container.
b. The heating and transfer of energy is endothermic and it needs more work or energy to make the
bonding possible so it is absorbed in the reaction.
c. The form it converts to is chemical potential energy.
